Who We Serve

The FORGE primarily serves the men, women, and children of Houston’s under-resourced Third Ward community. The vast majority of the families we serve live in impoverished conditions, in neighborhoods where drug dealing and crime are visible daily, but resources and facilities for wholesome activities are sparse. Many children are unsupervised, neglected and frequently lack appropriate nutrition, clothing and school supplies. Very few live with both parents; and many live with neither parent. In many of our families, parents, siblings or other immediate family members are addicted to drugs or are incarcerated.

High unemployment rates, low education levels, and the erosion of a once-strong family infrastructure have created a culture of poverty and hopelessness marked by crack, crime, and chaos. Into that powerful cultural quagmire, The FORGE offers a hope and a future by emphasizing a foundation of personal responsibility, educational excellence, and integrity – creating a new generation of leaders and role models in this under-served local community.
